Don’t forget to schedule your child’s annual sports physical.

With the end of summer fast approaching it’s never too soon to start thinking about all the things you need to do to get your child ready for another school year. Along with figuring out their exciting new back-to-school outfits and what school supplies they’ll need, it’s also a good Child Sports Physicalidea to turn your attention to their health. Have you scheduled their sports physical with one of our Mill Valley and San Francisco, CA pediatricians? If not, here’s why you should.

What are sports physicals and why are they important for my child?

Most schools or intramural sports teams make it mandatory for children who want to participate in sports to get an annual sports physical from their pediatrician before they can take part in physical activity. The purpose behind a sports physical is to make sure your child is healthy enough for the activity or activities in which they want to participate and to offer up ways to prevent sports-related injuries from happening to your little one.

There are two main components to a sports physical: the physical exam itself and going through your child’s medical history to determine if any previous injuries, surgeries, hospitalizations or health conditions could negatively impact their ability to participate in physical activity.

Sometimes a child may seem healthy but certain conditions or past injuries could lead them to further complications if they aren’t careful. Luckily, this is something that our pediatricians will be able to pinpoint and then create the best course of action so your little one remains healthy while enjoying the activities they love.

But my child doesn’t play sports…

Okay, so maybe your child isn’t into playing sports, but perhaps they still have to take part in physical education in school. Either way, it’s still important that your child visits a children’s doctor in San Francisco once a year for a full checkup and to stay up-to-date on important vaccinations that could keep them safe from a variety of potentially serious infections. Remember, these medical checkups are preventative.

Don’t wait until the last minute to schedule your child’s physical exam. Call Town and Country Pediatric Medical Associates at our San Francisco or Mill Valley, CA, location and schedule your child’s next appointment. Making sure your child starts the school year off healthy and happy is always the most important.
